We are Kurbingui Youth and Family Development, an Aboriginal community-controlled, non-profit organisation in North Brisbane that provides mentorship, education, and serves as a role model for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Our mission is “to build a flexible, sustainable organisation based on cultural values that can empower community to reach their potential,” and we do this through providing family, community, cultural, education, training, and social wellbeing services across Greater Brisbane, Moreton Bay, and Southeast Regions.

Due to the growth in our organisation and program offerings, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join us in our Zillmere head office full-time.

The Opportunity
As our Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading our program managers and senior office manager and overseeing our daily operations. You will report directly to our CEO and work closely with her and the rest of the senior leadership team to ensure effective management of our organisation and develop and deploy strategic plans for the future.
As part of our leadership team, you will work closely with our community Elders to collaborate on the direction of Kurbingui. You will also work closely with senior leadership on the development of budgets, processes and protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing day-to-day operations, including ensuring equipment is available, and workplace health and safety policies are adhered to
- Collaborate with other departments, including IT, finance, and HR, to ensure policies and procedures are up-to-date and followed
- Develop, implement, and track our strategic and operational plans alongside our leadership team
- Mentor and develop program managers and senior office managers
- Assist in the promotion of our service offerings and impact to external stakeholders
- Follow all reporting and filing guidelines and ensure other staff follow them as well
As our Operations Manager, you will oversee all programs, and will need to travel within work hours to attend stakeholder meetings and visit our different office locations within the greater Brisbane and Moreton Bay Regions.

About You
As our Operations Manager, you will have experience in managing people and programs in a community organisation, preferably in an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
You will be an inquisitive person, keen to learn the how and why of our organisation, and what we’ve done in the past to get to where we are now.
An understanding of the unique challenges facing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Elders, families, children, and young people in the communities where our programs are delivered will be necessary for you in this role. Experience working with boards and community Elders to develop programs and initiatives will be an advantage.
To succeed with us you will be highly organised, and excel at managing competing priorities and scheduling your time. You’ll have experience in a dynamic organisation where change is the norm, and thrive in this environment.
You will have:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Leadership or similar
- Tertiary qualifications and/or equal professional experience in psychology, social work, community services, health, youth work, early childhood
- Demonstrated experience in a similar Operations Management, General Management or Senior Program Management role
- Significant demonstrated experience in people management within a community organisation
- Significant demonstrated experience managing culturally safe programs
- Experience designing and operating within culturally safe outcomes frameworks
- Drivers License
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or the ability to obtain prior to commencing
